RUBBER ON WHEEL IS FASTER THAN RUBBER ON HEEL
Trennery’s Hotel braced for action-packed event
Classic enduro riding action is again on the cards with the Trennery's Wild Coast Funduro, presented by Slake Adventures, taking centre-stage on Saturday.
Classic enduro riding action is once again on the cards at Trennery's Hotel this weekend as the Trennery's Wild Coast Funduro, presented by Slake Adventures, takes centre-stage on Saturday.
The constantly growing and ever popular event is now into its fifth year and is expected to attract riders from around the country, who will participate in an enjoyable day of family fun.
“There is a lot of excitement. We have already had a whole crew from Cape Town arrive and they have been checking out bits of the course, so it is all looking good for the weekend,” said Trennery's manager Sherwin Carr.
“On Friday everyone arrives and we have a full-house once again.
“Every year it just keeps growing and improving and it is going to be a lot of fun once again.”
One of the main goals of the enduro every year is to raise funds from the entries, which are then donated to needy people in the surrounding areas.
“One of the most important things about this event is that we end up giving back to the community,” said Carr.
“Every year we take the funds raised from the entries and purchase things, like last year we bought weed-eaters and sent them to each location area around us.
“This year we will be buying plastic chairs, which we will donate. They will then rent or hire the chairs out and use them to generate an income for the local community.
“It is a very important thing for us to give back and we look forward to it every year.”
As it is a fun ride, no competitor licences or club memberships are needed and riders of all levels, together with family and friends, participate in the event, including day riders from East London and surrounding areas.
Only enduro and off-road two-wheel motorcycles are allowed to take part and riders will compete on a course that will feature three loops.
There are new challenges each year, so return riders will be kept on their toes.
In keeping with the family environment, a 1km kiddies loop will be located around the pits area in a safe, controlled area.
“We will have around 250 riders taking part which makes for a massive event and is really close to maximum capacity,” said Carr.
“In August we then have our next major Endure ride. We have the Battle Valley Hard Enduro, which is in its second year and has already got a massive interest.
“So we are becoming known as a riding destination which is really good.”
