EFF MP’s ‘stingy’ PE men tweet goes viral

Port Elizabeth men sponge off their girlfriends and should be treated with caution, according to some women on Twitter.

Bay men found themselves under heavy criticism from female Twitter users this week for being “stingy”, “selfish” lovers.

The online roasting was spearheaded by EFF MP Yoliswa Yako, who revealed to her 27,000 followers that she once dated a Port Elizabeth man who used to bring his friends on their date and make her pick up the bill.

The onslaught went viral, with hundreds of people retweeting Yako, while others took screenshots and posted them on other social sites.

The tweet sparked a support group-like conversation where many of Yako’s followers also vented about their “traumatic” experiences of dating PE men.

One user said her boyfriend would eat lunch with her at her office canteen, which she found cute, until she realised she was the one paying for the food.

“I drew the line when he would bring his boys. Once I refused to pay, he stopped coming,” tweeted @Steemo_Dee.

@KingZoey13 tweeted that PE men drive around Summerstrand trying to impress young students, then fetch their girlfriends from work and when dropping them off at home, ask for R100 petrol money, and then put R50 in the tank and “use the rest to buy beer”.

@OshyJ tweeted about a nasty public spat at a shop with her live-in lover after he refused to buy groceries when it was her turn to.

“It was a big scene at the store but I forced him to pay. He later went to a liquor store to buy alcohol and refused to buy for me. I destroyed his alcohol.”

In the midst of the Twitter barrage, one man turned to Bay mayor Mongameli Bobani pleading with him to come to the defence of Bay men.

But Bobani took the wiser route and replied: “Hayini madoda sanundifaka. Mna ndingowase Addo” [Gentleman don’t involve me, I am from

Addo].

This hilarious response from Bobani had people in stitches.
