Horse Haizi ain’t crazy

- Dispatch Racing Editor

CARLITA and Via Seattle are the favourites, but look out for Horse Haizi in the Milkwood Stakes (Listed) over 1 000m at Fairview tomorrow.

Eleven runners will face the starter in what promises to be nail-biter.

Horse Haizi’s early odds of 7-1 represent good value and the Duncan McKenzietrained daughter of Horse Chestnut could attract some late support.

Last time out, the chestnut filly finished just half a length behind Carlita over tomorrow’s distance, but comes in 2,5kg better off this time, with Carlita again carrying 60kg.

Louie Mxothwa retains the ride on Horse Haizi, while Bernard Fayd’Herbe returns to Carlita’s saddle.

Allan Greef-trained Seattle Oak, Carlita’s stablemate who will have Charles Ndlovu in the irons, is another danger to the favourites.

She finished strongly in her last two starts, ending up less than a length behind Carlita in her last race.

Carlita and Via Seattle are probably the top horses in the race, but Horse Haizi and Seattle Oak are both capable of upsetting the applecart.

Another Greeff runner, Make It Raine, and Mrs O, who is having her third run for new trainer Yvette Bremner, are not out of it, either.

The former was 0.60 lengths behind Carlita last time and looks set for improvement. The latter, who had three wins in 18 starts in Gauteng, is better than her last start might indicate and her penultimate run is much closer to the truth.

Recent winner Silva Key was a 22-1 outsider in early betting, but we should not underestimate Bremner’s runner with a mere 52kg on the back.

She won her last race with a strong late run, beating Al’s Bells by 0,25 lengths over 1 100m.

The daughter of Bold Silvano has not win six races for nothing.

Punters need to watch the betting for this tricky race, but the vote goes to Horse Haize to upset, with Seattle Oak, Via Seattle and Carlita next best.

The first of eight races is off at 12:30.
