Feast of rugby for EP fans

- GEORGE BYRON

Running rugby, sprinkled with spectacular tries, is on the menu when the EP Rugby Union hosts a SuperSport Rugby Challenge triple-header festival on Sunday.

EP president Andre Rademan has urged fans to get behind the Elephants at the all-day event at Kwazakhele’s Wolfson Stadium when they face the Sharks.

EP have scored 17 tries in two games at the Wolfson this season, so it is clearly a venue they enjoy playing at.

The action starts at 10.30am with a club match between Missionvale and Motherwell, before two key SuperSport Rugby Challenge clashes.

An in-form Western Province side will be looking to stretch their unbeaten run to six matches when they face a tough Free State outfit at midday.

This will be followed by a clash between the EP Elephants and Sharks at 2.30pm.

After their worst showing in history at senior and junior level last year, there are signs that EP Rugby is on the mend.

The Elephants have won two matches in the SuperSport Challenge, and victory over the Sharks would be a massive scalp.

In their previous game, the Elephants did not give an inch before eventually going down to an unbeaten Western Province side at Newlands.

“The Wolfson Stadium has been a happy hunting ground for EP this season, and it promises to be a magnificent day for everyone,” said Rademan.

“It is wonderful to have teams like Western Province, Free State and the Sharks joining us for the festival.”

EP will be defending an unbeaten record at the Wolfson Stadium, having won their previous two matches against the SWD Eagles and Border Bulldogs at the venue.

“This will be a feast of rugby and we want to fans to rally behind the team,” Rademan said.
