The Umtiza Arts Festival was nothing short of what it had promised to be, an exhilarating celebration of culture, drama, music, arts, science, food, art and comedy.

In its fourth year, the festival is the brainchild of three of East London’s most historical institutions, the Guild Theatre, East London Museum and the the Ann Bryant Gallery.

The event which was held between Friday and Sunday, saw young and old coming out to feed their love for the arts.

Performances and exhibitions at the festival included concert pianist Megan-Geoffrey Prins, the Soweto String Quartet, the Keiskamma Tapestry Exhibition, comedian Alfred Adriaan and some powerful theatre work from Amanda Bothma.

Speaking to the Daily Dispatch on Sunday, Guild Theatre manager, Zane Flanagan said the festival had been everything they were hoping it would be.

“We are only hoping to grow bigger and better,” said Flanagan.
