Desperate for a job, to care for disabled sister
Viwe Gose, who graduated with a national senior certificate in financial management from Lovedale College more than two years ago, is in dire need of a job.
The 24-year-old, who has always had ambitions of furthering her studies since she graduated in 2016, says she has not been able to fulfil her dream.
Gose also cares for her disabled sister Linda, aged 33.
“I have always been very passionate about numbers, which is why I pursued a career in financial management.
“The course focuses on financial accounting, income tax, cost and management accounting and computerised financial systems, which are subjects that are very important in any organisation and most effective to pursue when you’re someone who is good with numbers,” said Gose.
“I feel like this course has taught me so much about finances, from budgeting properly and just making the little money I have go a long way, but I am still looking forward to getting experience in the workplace, whether it’s in government or the private sector.
“I feel like I have a lot to offer but still so much to learn from either sector.”
Gose said she and her sister, who currently resides in her home village in Tyutyu near King William’s Town, relied on her sister’s disability grant to make ends meet.
“Things were difficult when our mom passed away in 2014, but they became worst last year when our dad passed away in August,” she said.
“It’s not easy to trouble family for financial support, which is why I would like to get a job to support my sister.
“As much as I’d love to further my studies, even up to a diploma level at least, but I can’t leave my sister unattended.
“With a job I would be able to pay for a helper while I focus on improving our quality of living.”
The former Nyameko Senior Secondary School pupil said she also had a sound knowledge of BAS (Basic Accounting System), Logis Integration and Mainframe, Microsoft Excel, Word, Presentation and various other programmes.
“During the time I was doing my experiential training at provincial treasury, it was a great experience for me.
“That department is basically the heart of the province.
“Working there, getting firsthand experience for the duration of my training was great, and I enjoyed the pressure of knowing I really have to pull my weight and concentrate because so many departments and people rely on you to do your part,” she said.
