BIG GUNS AND BIG RECORDS

Nadal takes on Federer in quarters

- Dispatch Racing Editor

TOMORROW’S race meeting at Fairview sees some of the biggest fields in a very long time. Although this makes for great racing, it also means potholes loom large.

Should outsiders spoil the fun for some punters, others will be looking at cashing in on the expected big dividends.

There is no clear banker for Pick 6 punters.

The first leg is Race 4, a Maiden Plate for all maidens over 1400 meters. With 13 runners facing up to the starter, anything can happen.

The former Candice BassRobinson charge Cradleofgratitude comes to Port Elizabeth with respectable Western Cape form and looks hard to beat.

However, tomorrow’s run will be his PE debut and it will be wise to include Alan Greeff’s Cirencester Rose and Tara Laing’s Brevin as well.

These three should see punters through to the next leg.

The second, third and fourth leg is where the big dangers are and punters are advised to go as wide as their budgets allow.

Greeff’s Al’s Bells looks to be the proverbial good thing in Race 8.

Brave punters could banker this daughter of Captain Al, but there is no guarantee as Oklahoma Sky, First Swallow and Rings And Things are all in with a big chance.

Another Greeff runner, Sun Up, looks the sort in the last race. She is also perfectly drawn in gate 17 on the 1200m straight.

Greg Cheyne should take a lot of beating on this mount, but don’t underestimate Melandia and Greeff’s new acquisition from Kwazulu-Natal, Elusive Diva.

The daughter of Elusive Fort was rested after her maiden win on 10 March, but comes to PE with good form.

She is a one-time winner from 15 starts and also has four seconds, a third and a fourth place to her credit.

Parade’s End and Zanzibar Beat are both upset material.

An exciting but tough day awaits punters.

The nine-race card starts at 11:55 with a Maiden Juvenile Plate for maiden 2-year-olds over 1200m.

Gavin Smith’s Big Bay looks a racing certainty with Muzi Yeni up.

The Greeff and Yvette Bremner stables can lead the way with 25 and 24 runners respectively.
