Education policy guru Kesava Pillai Anilkumar has been sworn in as a member of the legislature in Bhisho.

Pillai was sworn into office on Friday, replacing Ncediwe Nobevu-Booi who died in a car crash in July.

Pillai, a unionist, has worn several hats in his 30-year stint in the education department, from teacher to director of the department.

He has been ANC Rubusana region chair and treasurer, ANC education subcommittee member and Sadtu provincial committee member. He has not yet been allocated a constituency but has vowed to give his all in his new role.

“People will see. My view is that this constituency that is going to be given to me will be different in a way that people can see that difference in all aspects,” he told the Dispatch.

Pillai said judging from the reception to his new role on social media “people identify with me”.

“They feel that there is a change that is going to happen. They expect that from me,” he said.
