It’s all systems go for the Daily Dispatch Mthatha Fun Run which is expected to pull in more than a thousand athletes to Mthatha Stadium on Saturday.

The fun run, organised in partnership with OR Tambo district municipality, is in its fourth year, and organisers have indicated that they expected 1,500 people to take part in this year’s instalment of the event, which is a significant jump as compared to the previous race that had almost 1,200 runners who participated.

Daily Dispatch marketing coordinator Ludwe Ngxanga said: ‘‘We already have 1,200 runners registered, and I think that’s a big improvement.”

There will be great prizes to be won after the race.

‘‘We are also running the competition on September 30th, and online entries stand a chance to win a share of R2,000 in Spur vouchers.”

The fun run consists of 5km, starting at 7.30am, and registration will be R50 per adult and R40 for kids under 14 years.

There will also be a 10km race, which starts at 7am with a R80 adult fee and R60 for kids under the age of 16, as well as the introduction of the new main 21km race, which has a R100 registration fee. “We’ll also have some pre-fitness fun and walk with aerobics and boot camp for the activations at Hotel Savoy parking September 14 from 9am to 3pm.

‘‘Runners can also use our Facebook page at Dispatch Fun Run Mthatha for registration and Ink Sport Mthatha. Registration and T-shirt collection will be taking place at BT Ngebs City from October 3rd until 5th from 10am to 6pm,’’ he said.

“Corporate with most entries will walk away with R30,000 Daily Dispatch advertising package.

“We want to mention that schools will also be included in the competition category, and this time around schools with the highest number of entries will walk away with prizes of R3,000 for the school.

“There will also be free Tshirts for the 1,000 at registration, and no T-shirt will be available on the day of a race,” said Ngxanga.
