Five wins for Maclear pair in Turkey pageant
Young beauty queens shine among contestants from several countries
Two young Maclear women raised the SA and Eastern Cape flags high in Turkey recently in a beauty competition, Miss TV Start Model.
Tazley Zöe Grewe, 16, won the best music talent category, the Miss Gold Star pre-teen model category and a diploma in the super grand prix pre-teen model category.
Zenande Funani, 21, won the talent category, a diploma for best pirate of the Mediterranean costume and the Miss Model category.
The hard-working go-getters took part in the Miss TV Start Model 2019 from September 29 till October 8 in different categories, with participants from about eight countries taking part.
Funani said: “I was inspired to become a model from the age of 11 and this gave me the platform to reach out to many people and families.”
Tazley said: “I got my inspiration from watching Miss SA and also by our very own Miss SA 2019, Zozibini “Zozi” Tunzi.”
The two beauty queens said they had learned a lot about the multitude of cultures in Turkey, met many people and got to share their “amazing journeys”.
Their advice to upcoming models was “to go for it”.
“It will open doors for you and can be life-changing.
“It will also come with many benefits such as getting to meet experienced people.”
The two beauty queens had no sponsorship and said they had worked hard to raise funds for their trips and their gowns.
Tazley’s mom Hayley said: “We as the parents of the girls had to cover most of the costs for the trip but the entries were managed by TCM Models’ Adele Kapp.
“We were very proud of the girls and we did accompany them to their destination.”
Beauty pageant organiser Adele Kapp said: “I made sure that the girls had all the information regarding the competition, outfits and visas for the trip. Tazely was one of the highest scoring contestants at the competition.
“The ladies did a fantastic job abroad and any agency will be very lucky to have them as part of their team,” said Kapp.
