Actress hopeful for her break
“I want to change lives, but I need a job to do that.”
Zizipho Matu, who was born and raised in the small town of Dutywa, graduated in 2016 with a BA in Drama and Theatre Arts from the University of the Free State.
The 24-year-old, like so many of her peers, has been unable to secure permanent employment despite having a tertiary qualification to her name.
Matu loved drama from a young age and studied the arts throughout her high school career.
She pursued her passion when she matriculated in 2013, with the hope that she would one day land a job doing what she loves.
Despite struggling to find a job, Matu has not been deterred by the challenges life has thrown her way.
She has been working as a hostess, but has made a concerted effort to go to as many auditions as she can.
Matu has experience working as a stage manager at the Performing Arts Centre of the Free State (PACOFS) and a receptionist for a car repair business.
Matu said at the arts centre she would recommend marketing initiatives to invite audiences to productions.
She said other than her drama skills, she also has other traits that would equip her to work for any company, including problem-solving, adaptability, flexibility and interpersonal skills.
She works well under pressure, in a team, and ensures she timeously and meticulously completes all assigned tasks.
Matu regards herself as a person who is passionate and dedicated.
She enjoys watching documentaries and plays and experiencing new ventures.
Matu will be a valuable employee in any company, and is a good communicator.
