Top SA acts for London Roots party
Media personality Somizi Mhlongo to host event
Eastern Cape music lovers are in for a treat on the Day of Goodwill as the London Roots party is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a scintillating musical line-up.
The event, known for its diversity across genres, will take place at the Buffalo City Stadium on its flagship date: December 26.
The event will feature iconic choreographer and media personality Somizi Mhlongo as the host along with Africa’s female DJ of the Year, Zinhle, old-school kwaito star Mzambia and platinum-selling hip hop artist Nasty C.
Co-founder of the event Nikita Manqoyi said it had overcome every hurdle and was making big improvements every year.
“The event has brought together people from all over SA during a celebratory time. This year is a big one for us. It is the first time a bank has come on board to support such an event.
“So it is now the Capitec London Roots which will deliver the quality entertainment and hosting it is known for. Our main goal is to create an unforgettable experience for our patrons with the entertainment and the all-round hospitality. This year the event promises to be bigger and better,” he said,
Patrons will be able to open Capitec bank accounts on the day and existing members get a 10% discount on ticket sales.
Manqoyi said line-up catered for everyone.
“We always try to balance out the old school and contemporary music preferences on the line-up.
“We have had artists like the legendary Thebe on the London Roots stage and this year we are excited to have Mzambia. xiTsonga rapper Sho Madjozi will definitely entertain along with hip hop great AKA,” he said.
SA rapper and businesswoman Nomuzi Mabena, who attended the London Roots marquee at the Berlin November last month, will perform.
Manqoyi said it was the citizens of East London who made the event popular.
“East London people have shown us support since the inception and we are grateful for that.
“We also don’t take it lightly that people like Somizi, who hosted the very first London Roots, saw something in us and pledged to support the event from day one,” Manqoyi said.
Somizi, who is popular for his charismatic judging skills on singing competition Idols SA, has been the host of all the London Roots parties.
The event will feature local DJs Mjazz, Misser Housefanatic, DJ Minty and more.
Tickets are available at Computicket. Cooler boxes are allowed into the venue, but no glass bottles.
