Villagers grab sleeping rape suspect
A youth, arrested as he slept, will appear before a magistrate on Tuesday charged with the rape of a 26-year-old woman.
Police spokesperson captain Jackson Manatha said the man, 25, was arrested by Ezibeleni police in Komani on Sunday.
He said the complainant was dropped off by a taxi at 12.15am at Ezibeleni. “While she was on her way home, a suspect appeared wielding a knife. The complainant was threatened not to scream. She was dragged to a house where the rape took place,” Manatha said.
“It is alleged that the suspect fell asleep after raping the complainant. She was able to text her sister and inform her. Community members were called and found the suspect in deep slumber next to the complainant. They called police who arrived expeditiously.”

He will appear in the Komani magistrate’s court on Monday. ● Two men were arrested, one for murder and one for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, in Ngcobo on Friday. Local police with other units arrested a 31-year-old man they suspect may be linked to several recent murders committed around Ngxoki village, Manatha said.
In a separate incident, a man was found with an unlicensed 45 pistol, 100 live rounds of ammunition and a magazine, Manatha said.
They will appear before the Ngcobo magistrate on Monday.
