Mbalula caved
It’s a disgrace the way the transport minister, Fikile Mbalula, just gave in to the taxi bodies (‘That is Final ’– Mbalula after Changing Taxi Rules under Covid-19 Lockdown, DD April 2).
First they refused over carrying half loads, then the minister said full loads if everyone wore masks, now it’s 70% loads. Mbalula should be held accountable for his actions because he is putting people at risk during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The taxi bodies themselves see nothing but profit and most of them don’t even pay normal tax like the rest of us.
We all know that the taxi industry is a huge problem in this country because it’s not regulated. It’s about time the sector was properly regulated and monitored. And if they don’t adhere to the law, then bring in law enforcement agents to sort them out.
