Ministers true colours

-

Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams Placed on Special Leave after Lockdown Lunch” (DD April 8) refers.

For 21 days bottle stores, taverns, restaurants, churches, schools and sports events are closed. Workers cannot support their families. People are hungry and sad but they hope this sacrifice is for the right reason and the good of SA in the midst of this coronavirus pandemic.

Then we are shown this opulence and public bragging using the sweat and blood of the working class and taxpayers. In the midst of lockdown the minister of communication — whose job is in the trenches in the fight to push back Covid-19 deaths by sending out the right message about social distance — displays utter disregard. Her unbecoming conduct puts both the youth league and the ANC in disrepute.

Conscientious leaders like Albertina Sisulu, Dorothy Nyembe and Charlotte Maxeke paid dearly for you and me to be free today. Their struggle must not amount to zero. Enough! Stella must go! Not tomorrow but now. We have many capable cadres waiting in the wings to serve their people with the respect they deserve.

“Kakade isisila senkukhu sibonwa mhla ligquthayo ”— she has shown her true colours.
