Jodwana itching for game time at Chippa
New kid on the block Athini Jodwana says he cannot wait to be given a shot to showcase his skills at Chippa United when the Absa Premiership restart comes.
The 26-year-old left wing joined the Eastern Cape-based side from GladAfrica side Steenberg United in January.
He has made three appearances for the Chilli Boys in the Nedbank Cup but his biggest wish is to make his debut in the premiership.
And the player is lining up the six remaining matches in the season to make his mark.
“Mentally, physically and emotionally I am ready and fit to make my debut for my team in the league. I am just waiting to be given that opportunity,” Jodwana said.
“I would be very happy if I could be given an opportunity to play in the remaining league matches before this season ends.
“It’s every player’s dream to one day play in the PSL and when I was in the NDF I also had those wishes.”
Jodwana was in the squad that knocked out Nedbank defending champs TS Galaxy in the first round of the competition with a 3-0 victory.
He made a return when the
Chilli Boys played Bidvest Wits in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
“Playing in the Nedbank Cup was a great experience for me. I was a little rusty during the match against TS because I had not been playing competitively for a long time.
“So one gets a bit rusty when not getting game time, but by the second game against Wits at least I was in the right gear and I was myself.
“When you do not play for a long time your confidence level also goes down but when you are given regular game time, confidence wise, you’ll be in the right space.”
Before joining Chippa, Jodwana was a regular and influential player at Steenberg.
He featured in 17 matches, which included league and cup games.
