Quartet could lead to the July riches

-

MOST punters will agree that the Quartet is a quick bet with which a small fortune can be won, without costing an arm and a leg.

On Saturday, the TAB Quartet pool on the Vodacom Durban July is expected to reach R15m thanks to a R1m carryover to boost the pool.

That’s 15 million reasons why a Quartet bet on arguably South Africa’s most celebrated race should be on every South African’s to-do list.

Betting has already opened, and the ComputaForm for Saturday’s race-meeting at Greyville is available free of charge at tabonline.co.za, so there’s no excuse not to get in on the action right now and try to win your share of R15m.

Remember, the Vodacom Durban July is Race 7 and is scheduled to off at 15:10 on Saturday.

Race 7 today at Durbanville won’t see quite the same calibre of horses in action as Saturday’s main race, but that doesn’t mean the action will be any less exciting.

And here again a Quartet bet could offer a very decent return on investment.

On paper, most of the 12 runners in this FM 79 Divided Handicap over 1 000m have a chance to claim victory.

Two runners who will be renewing their rivalry are On Captain’s Side and Bad Habit.

The first time these two met was in February when Bad Habit was victorious by 1.5 lengths.

They then met again on Youth Day at Kenilworth, when On Captain’s Side, trained by Greg Ennion, finished 1.45 lengths ahead of Candice Bass-Robinson’s charge.

Today, however, Bad Habit has the luck of the draw, jumping from gate 1, while On Captain’s Side is in gate 11. That could just be enough of an advantage to turn the tables again.

Velvet Dawn, a five-year-old mare trained by Patrick Kruyer, has five top-four finishes over today’s course and distance, while Justin Snaith said Aye Aye will run to form and her work is good. Both these runners thus have obvious Quartet claims.

And then there’s Mon Cherie.

This Querari filly has ability to spare and according to Kruyer has been working nicely.

Floating On Captain’s Side (2) and Bad Habit (3) with Mon Cherie (1), Velvet Dawn (4), Aye Aye (5) and Queen’s Club (7) for a Quartet will cost R144, or R14.40 for 10 percent.
