Nange aims to close Wits chapter with silverware

- NEVILLE KHOZA

Bidvest Wits midfielder Phathutshedzo Nange says it is important they help the club end their 99th year of existence by winning the Nedbank Cup and finishing high in the log table.

Wits, who have sold their Premiership status to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) owner Masala Mulaudzi, will meet Mamelodi Sundowns in the semifinal of the cup competition at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

The club will then relocate to Limpopo at the end of the season and before they do that, Nange wants to end on a high by lifting the Nedbank Cup with them.

“It will be good for us and we are motivated to win the cup. At the beginning of the season we told ourselves we must finish with silverware and we still have that opportunity,” Nange said on Sunday.

“We are in the semifinal of the Nedbank Cup. We can go all the way and win it, we will try all our best and give 100% to try to win it.

“We want to end on a high note and try to win something at the end of the season.

“It will be good to be the last players to have brought something to the club and when people remember that, they will also remember us.”

Despite uncertainty around the future of the players, whether some will relocate with the club to Limpopo or not, the 28-year-old attacking midfielder insists they remain committed to finishing the season well.

“That has affected everyone — from supporters, management and everyone at the club. But this is what happens in life; we’ve got to focus and look forward and know what we want.

“We must continue to work harder to try to achieve what we wanted at the beginning of the season.”

The midfielder added that he would only decide at the end of the season if he would relocate to his home province of Limpopo with the club or not.

“There is nothing much I can say about my future. What I know is TTM bought Wits with all players, so I will see at the end of the season what will come.

“So far I’m focusing on Wits, trying to push and making sure we do well in the league and Nedbank.”
