Calling all young writers

-

Every year, READ Educational Trust encourages budding young authors to challenge their creativity in the Word Warrior Competition. The 2019 competition yielded a high literary standard, making it difficult to pick the eventual winner.

Sivani Pillay from Kamalinee Primary School was eventually awarded the ‘Word Warrior 2019’ title, a R1,000 cash prize and books to the value of R5,000 for her school.

The 2020 competition continues the focus on furry hero, the foxy Detective Inkomba, and entrants aged nine to 16 are required to write fresh, authentic dialogue for a play, a movie or to use in a story.

Entrants’ are encouraged to let their imaginations to run wild, and create a scenario where Detective Inkomba solves a mystery of sorts. He could set off on interplanetary travel, engage in covert affairs, local affairs or even a love affair! The sky’s the limit!

The winner walks away with a R1,000 cash prize and books to the value of R5,000 for their school. Entries close on 31 October 2020. — DDC *Would-be entrants are invited to view a sample scene, dialogue extract and conclusion, by following the link: http://www.read.org.za/wpcontent/uploads/2020/07/ Word-Warrior-Competition2020.pdf
