Why, Mr President?

-

Can you really investigate yourselves, comrades? Who are you trying to fool? Where is your revolutionary conscience? Why are you doing these things? (“Crackdown on Covid-19 Corruption Ramps Up”, DD Aug 7.)

I blame the person who got me to understand and know the ANC because this is permanent in me; I will never be able to associate myself with any political party other than the ANC, despite the scandals that are being committed by its leadership on a daily basis. My plea to President Cyril Ramaphosa is, allow those with skill and capacity to investigate this Covid-19 corruption without any political interference, please. In 2018, you promised to uproot corruption, please then honour your promise. This country is gradually perishing because of corruption. Mr President, you were elected based on your insistence on fighting corruption, so why are you now disappointing those who elected you? Why are you failing to deal with corruption across the government? The provinces are finished, the municipalities are like ATMs, all departments are just conveyor belts for corruption. Why, Mr Ramaphosa?

You were like a “Mission Accomplished” hero when people elected you but look now — thieves are just celebrating their way to the public funds without anyone stopping them. Mr Ramaphosa, why? Mr President, the country is crying out for leadership during these difficult times of coronavirus and corona corruption. Where are you? What is it that you owe these thieves such that, instead of allowing law enforcement agencies to get on with their job, you choose to politicise this corruption through assembling a team of ministers — who are not immune to this corruption — to investigate themselves?

Why, Mr President, why?
