Seema pleased with point, wanted more
Chippa United coach Lehlohonolo Seema admitted matters did not go according to plan but said his team would take the point they earned against Stellenbosch on Friday evening and run.
Thokozani Sekotlong’s late goal saw the Port Elizabeth side claim a vital point from a 1-1 draw in the Absa Premiership match at Tuks Stadium.
Chippa are now 12th on the log with 31 points and look to be heading towards relative safety from the relegation scrap happening below.
“It’s a point that we welcome,” Seema said.
“It’s a big point for us. Getting past the 30-point mark is massive, especially now, under these circumstances.
“We are just building to make sure that we secure our status so that we know next season we’ll be 100% safe.
“We are happy with the result of the game. We’ll take it and run, and use it to build on our log position.
“We said we expected a tough game against Stellenbosch and that is exactly what we got. We conceded a goal from a throwin. We knew after scoring they would try to defend with everything they have.”
Seema said with the difficulties his troops faced in Friday night’s game he was forced to abandon his original game plan.
“In the first half we did not do what we agreed on, and we couldn’t even penetrate the defence.”
Despite that, the former
Bloemfontein Celtic mentor complimented his team for their fighting spirit and neversay-die attitude.
“In the second half we played much better. I was not surprised we got that goal. It’s just that we got it deep in, towards the end of game,” Seema said.
“We are left with two very difficult games: Chiefs and Golden Arrows.
“We’ll give those matches our best shot. One thing I know about this team is that they’ll fight until the last game of the season.”
