Four to watch today

- Dispatch Racing Editor

TELLYTRACK broadcasts live horseracing daily from around the world starting at around 4am until midnight.

Today, the only channel in South Africa which is dedicated to horseracing and which broadcasts on channel 249 on DStv, will broadcast races from 15 different meetings in 8 countries.

Thanks to TAB, punters can bet on every single one of those races.

Racing connoisseurs can look forward to seeing some exceptional runners live in action today. Here are four horses who are worth following – on screen and perhaps also with one’s wallet.

Galifa

This filly lines up in Race 3 at Parilly in Lyon, France at 12:55.

The two-year-old comes from an impeccable pedigree - Frankel x Viva Rafaela (BRZ) by Know Heights (IRE) - and looked very promising when third on debut a month ago. She is expected to progress significantly and is the one to beat. The filly is trained by legendary Andre Fabre.

Frank Lloyd Wright

Trained by Justin Snaith, this Captain Al gelding takes on quite a decent field in Race 7 at Greyville, Durban today, with the gates scheduled to crash open at 15:20.

This five-year-old’s career has been one of peaks and troughs, but by all accounts, he could be on the cusp of another peak.

In his first six runs he finished in the top four, but in his next five runs, his best result was a fifth place.

He followed that up with five consecutive top-four finishes. In his last five outings, however, he again lost the plot, finishing in twelfth position on no less than three accounts.

He has been most successful over today’s distance, so that might just be the trigger to set him off on another winning spree.

Roca Magica

This bay filly will aim to add the Mondialiste Leger Legends Classified Stakes over 1600m (one mile) to her resume at 15:40 at Doncaster in the UK.

The Mondialiste Leger Legends Classified Stakes is usually reserved for retired champions, but with only current professionals allowed this year, jockey Frankie Dettori will be aboard Roca Magica.

Trained by Ed Dunlop, the four-year-old was twice successful over this distance earlier in the season and has recorded five victories this year.

Poised To Strike

Trained by David Hayes, the five-year-old will be in action in the last race at Happy Valley, Hong Kong, at 16:50.

Hayes trained Poised To Strike in Australia where he won three times in 13 races before the gelding was sold to Hong Kong. Although his best effort in Hong Kong has been a fifth place, Hayes has certainly appeared to have turned the five-year-old’s form around.

Jumping from gate 3 he has a lot going for him and can contest the finish.
