Pitso in no rush to recall talented Mkhize from Ajax

- SIHLE NDEBELE

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has given an indication that talented central midfielder Siphesihle Mkhize, on loan at Ajax Cape Town, will not be recalled any time soon.

Mkhize, 21, is having a stellar season at Ajax, where he has forged a solid midfield partnership with Grant Margeman, who has penned a deal to link up with Sundowns at the end of the current season as Ajax are still involved in the promotion play-offs.

You can tell that Mosimane holds Mkhize, the former Amajita star, in high regard.

However, the Brazilians mentor wants the lad from Umlazi in Durban to accumulate more experience on loan.

“We call him Busquets [after the Barcelona star Sergio Busquets]. We took him to Ajax to gain experience,’’ Mosimane said after his team beat Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 in the Nedbank Cup final at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night, where Gaston Sirino scored the only goal of the game.

“You must know that Mkhize is also an international player, I think for under-20 [in fact, he no longer qualifies to play for Amajita since he is 21].

“We always have a relationship with Ajax in terms of the youngsters that they take from us, the youngsters we take from them, so he’s doing very well.’’

Mosimane sounded pleased that Mkhize was playing in the play-offs, giving an impression that the round-robin tournament could train him mentally. The Nedbank Cup was Mosimane’s 11th trophy since arriving at Chloorkop in December 2012.

“He’s stressing now with the play-offs, that’s what we need from our young players, to gain experience and all that,’’ Mosimane said of Mkhize.

“Sometimes you bring them too early, too young, and they don’t get the opportunity to play and you deny them the chance to get experience.’’
