JSE muted as global markets await US Fed decision

-

The JSE was little changed on Wednesday morning while global equities were mixed as investors remained cautious ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision later in the day.

Yesterday morning the JSE all share was flat at 56,149.39 points while the top 40 had added 0.10%. Banks dropped 1.56% and financials 1.06%.

“There is a risk that the Fed disappoints more dovish expectations if the recent faster-thanexpected declines in unemployment reveal a committee that is split on the new strategy,” said AxiCorp chief global market strategist Stephen Innes. “Remember, when it comes to Fed policy, it’s hardly the Ten Commandments.”

Earlier, the Shanghai Composite was down 0.36% while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and Japan’s Nikkei 225 were flat. In Europe, the FTSE 100 was down 0.29% while France’s CAC 40 and Germany’s DAX 30 were little changed.
