Rulani’s move scuttles Ndlovu’s dream

- NEVILLE KHOZA

Harold Ndlovu would have joined Chippa United had Rulani Mokwena continued as a coach.

The former Polokwane City and TS Sporting goalkeeper was training with Chippa before the lockdown, after Mokwena contacted him and said he wanted him to join the team.

But when Mokwena left Chippa after being in charge of just one match, Ndlovu’s dream of signing with the team disappeared as well.

“Coach Rulani was the one who told me to come and join the team but then I was still attached with TS Sporting, so I had to wait for this coming season for me to be a free agent,” Ndlovu said.

The 29-year-old goalie insists he is not disappointed that the move did not happen after Mokwena left to rejoin Mamelodi Sundowns as assistant coach to Pitso Mosimane.

“For me, I was just privileged enough to work with someone like him and for someone like him to recommend me to say, ‘look, I want you to come and work for the team I want to build ’— that’s what he wanted to do, but unfortunately he left,” Ndlovu said.

“Besides anything else, I’m just humbled that coach Rulani was the one; I mean if a young coach like him believes in your talent it says a lot.”

Ndlovu added that he understood when Chippa informed him they wouldn’t be signing him, while revealing there were other offers on the table for his services.

“There are offers that are lined up now, we are just waiting for finalisation.

“That’s why I’m busy working on myself because the camp (in Pretoria for out-of-contract players) is about allowing us to be fit and working hard.

“I know that I’m going back to the Premiership.”
