Trump vs media

- — Khotso KD Moleko, via e-mail

Immediately after Donald Trump’s victory in the 2016 presidential elections, the US mainstream media resolved to make his presidency a nightmare.

No public figure in recent history, in his view, has faced so much opposition from the media than Trump.

Perhaps, it could be said, his victory was not only unexpected but unacceptable.

As a result, the only thing left to do for his opponents was to demonstrate their denialism of democratic processes through constant interruptions and objections.

During the first presidential debate this week, this new US strategy of interrupting was displayed by both Trump and Democratic Party candidate Joe Biden.

They interrupted each other as the media has done to Trump throughout his first term as president. In hindsight, the mainstream media in America and opponents of Trump refused to acknowledge defeat through a democratic process, thereby introducing a new culture into American politics.

In other words, they refused for nearly four years to hand over the reins to Trump peacefully and unite behind their president for the sake of their nation.

Instead, they resorted to childish antics to discredit him whilst focusing only on his faults and completely ignoring his achievements. Are they surprised today at his dismissive and defensive attitude?

To give credit to Trump, he has in the most skilful but streetwise manner managed to expose the timidity and indolence of Joe Biden.

This way Trump has forced Biden to be at the same level the media portrays him, in the eyes of the voters.

Next for Trump will be to outclass Biden in terms of sharpness of mind and real Americanness.

But the disaster that was the presidential debate this week is the American dish that was prepared by the mainstream media, all in their zest to prove their intelligence and ability to influence, served chaotically to the world.
