Eva Nga Bienvenu to sort out goal scoring problems at Chippa United

- VUYOKAZI NKANJENI

The arrival of Cameroonian marksman Eva Nga Bienvenu will help ease the pressure of scoring goals when the new DStv Premiership kicks off on October 24, Chippa United striker Augustine Kwem says.

The 23-year-old Nigerian was the Eastern Cape side’s top goal scorer last season, with eight in all competitions in his maiden season after having graduated from the ABC Motsepe League.

This week, the club rewarded Kwem ’ s work by handing him a further three-year extension on his contract.

Kwem says the arrival of Nga Bienvenu has provided him with a solid partner and together they will be a strong attacking force for Chippa.

They will be determined to help solve Chippa’s scoring problem.

“I am happy to be back. I just did my first training session with the team now,” Kwem said on Thursday.

“I am trying to keep up with the pace and even exceeded what I did last season because I owe [club owner] Chippa [Mpengesi] a lot.

“He gave me an opportunity from the ABC Motsepe League so this is my only way to thank him,” he said. “Now that we have signed another striker from Cameroon I’ll have support up front, so the load will be much lighter.

“Both of us together as foreigners will lead the attack of the team.

“I promise that I will always do my best.

People should expect an improvement on the previous Kwem because there is always room to improve.

With God and hard work I believe I am going to surpass my achievement from last season.”

Chippa mentor Lehlohonolo Seema has done some major clearing out in the Chilli Boys camp before the new season.

As a result, 15 players made way for the young blood coming in.

On Monday, the Chilli Boys announced the termination of contracts for Zimbabwean twins Kevin and Elvis Moyo, Lehlohonolo Masalesa, Phetso Maphanga, Ryan Baartman and William Twala.

Chippa also opted not to renew the contracts of Thabo Rakhale, Boikanyo Komane and

Gerald Modisane, which have lapsed.

The club also said on-loan Orlando Pirates trio Diamond Thopola, Tercious Malepe and Meshack Maphangule would not be returning to Chippa as their deals had lapsed.

Athini Jodwana and Ronaldo Maarman will be loaned out for the 2020/2021 season, while Ruzaigh Gamildien signed with Swallows.

Besides the signing of Nga Bienvenu, the Chilli Boys have also roped in 25-year-old Namibian left back Riaan Hanamub.

Last week, the Chilli Boys also announced the return of midfielder Sizwe Mdlinzo on a 34month contract.

Seema mentioned he would be working with a lot of young and unknown players this coming season.

Kwem hopes the young blood will also be given a chance to shine.

“You have to applaud coaches who give players a chance.

“I think sometimes hunger and talent can make a player perform.”
