Tributes pour in for admired education official Pulumani

The Eastern Cape education department's communicat­ions manager, Loyiso Pulumani, has been remembered for his gentleness and responsive­ness ”.

Tributes continued to pour in for Pulumani, who died on Sunday after a short illness.

Basic education minister Angie Motshekga said Pulumani would be greatly missed by the department.

Motshekga extended her condolence­s to the Pulumani family.

Our prayers and thoughts are with you at this time and we, as the department of basic education, stand ready to support our colleagues in the Eastern Cape as they prepare to lay this servant of the people to rest.

Premier Oscar Mabuyane said he was shocked and saddened by Pulumani s death and he wishes his family, especially his wife and children, friends and colleagues strength during this painful time. Pulumani was a skilled, talented and committed public servant who always went an extra mile in serving the people of our province with humility, care and compasion,” Mabuyane said.

Pulumani was the provincial department of education communicat­ions and media liaison manager at the time of his death. Education MEC Fundile Gade sent his condolence­s to Pulumani s family and friends.

He said Pulumani was a seasoned government communicat­or who served the provincial government with diligence and commitment ”.

Gade said they had lost one of the pillars of the department.

Hundreds of people took to social media to pay tribute to Pulumani.

Basic education ministry chief director of communicat­ions Elijah Mhlanga wrote: Rest in peace Mhlekazi. I have known and worked with you for many years and got to share lots of memories.”
