A Chippa on my shoulder

-

The announcement Council Approval (DD Nov 27) refers. “” Why were Buffalo City Metro citizens not given opportunity to subject this plan and its viability to rigorous scrutiny before council gave it approval?

Why is there no e-mail address for HOD: Spatial Planning and Development as an alternative to PO Box 81 East London? Given the state of the post office, the possibility of nondelivery of objections cannot be overlooked.

As rugby is paying a monthly rental of R100,000, Chippa s

’ once-off donation of R10m (“BCM mayor ducks anti-Chippa deal memorandum ”, DD Oct 28) equates to little over eight years rent. Then what?

If the donation is in cash, where it be invested to benefit BCM sport? If in kind (that is, capital not income), how will either option be an improvement for BCM sport?

Is the donation to be paid as a lump sum before the proposed lease begins or will it be in instalments with the concomitant risk of default?

Chippa s proposed monthly rental of R3,000 is a discount of

R97,000 sponsored by Buffalo City Metro citizens. How

— does the council intend maintaining the properties on such a significantly lower rental when it is unable to maintain the properties at the current rental?

Presumably Chippa will assume all running costs, maintenance and the salaries of BCM staff in return for the low rental?

Will citizens receive a reduction in rates to reflect that this will no longer be a municipal (that is, ratepayer) expense?
