EL businesswoman lands top job
Nolubabalo Mcinga takes over as country director and African ambassador of Timeless Women of Wonder
An East London businesswoman has been appointed as SA director of Timeless Women of Wonder [TWOW], which champions economic transformation across the African continent.
Nolubabalo “Babsie” Mcinga takes over as country director and African ambassador of TWOW from Lizelle Maurice, who has been appointed as the CEO for Border-Kei Business Chamber.
Mcinga, who is from Graaff-Reinet, graduated with a BSc degree at the University of Free State. She also studied tourism at Damelin and is currently doing an international relations course with the University of London.
She said she was excited to step in to her new role, which will see her assisting local SMMEs by connecting with the rest of Africa. For the next five years she will engage with TWOW stakeholders and mobilise sponsorships for development programmes arranged by the organisation around the African continent.
“This is a big movement in Africa because of the work they are doing in transforming the continent’s economy,” Mcinga said. “I’ve already started working and it is very exciting. I’m honoured to be part of it.
“It’s like I was born for this position as everything that I have done in the past and the networks that I have generated prepared me for this role.
“I have relatives in other African countries as well, so that will make my job easier.”
Mcinga, who runs the Emthonjeni Lodge & Conference Centre in Hamburg and other businesses in East London, said she had gained valuable experience from her jobs, both with the government and the private sector.
In confirming the appointment, TWOW CEO and founder Nyakan June, who is based in Kenya, said Maurice had done a fantastic job in setting up TWOW in South Africa.
“Her strong leadership has seen many South African women engage with the regional network and access opportunities to grow their leadership and enterprises, and I am confident Nolubabalo will take the organisation even further,” June said.
“She takes over at a time when the world is grappling with a global economic, health and social crisis.
“TWOW Africa is known for its tenacity in bridging social economic gaps and innovating through crises to deliver continuous social and economic transformation to African citizens and governments.
“She is a resilient, vibrant, strategic and visionary leader who embodies the ideals and values of TWOW.
She is aligned to and very passionate about our vision for a prosperous Africa.”
June said the focus was on solving Africa’s problems and creating wealth, and that Mcinga had a track record of working towards this same goal to make an economic impact across SA.
“She is a voice of change for this generation and because we are action-orientated, we believe that our transformational agenda for
South Africa is in the right hands,” she said.
“Our new country director is a leader with the passion, commitment and drive to execute and deliver tangible, pragmatic programmes that will transform the economy and lives of women and SMMES in South Africa.“We are fully committed to supporting her to succeed in this role.”
