-

The Selborne College first team rowing squad produced some good results when they travelled to Pretoria to participate in the Senior South African National Rowing Championships early this month.

The boys stayed on the banks of the Roodeplaat Dam for the week and spent time training on the course before the event.

Selborne is the oldest school rowing club in the country and will celebrate its centenary in 2022.

There were some exciting results in the U18 pairs where all three crews made the A final.

Brynn Rawlins and Isemihle Nonqane were the most improved oarsmen of the tour.

They had an outstanding race and finished fourth in a time of 8:15, ahead of fifth-placed Aaron van Dyk and Sebastian Talyor in a time of 8:30.

The final Selborne crew of Garren Muller and Joshua Sinclair In the finished boys ’in U18 a time doubles of 9:08. Selborne entered two crews. Ben Ristow and Hayden Thompson rowed well to make the final and finished fifth in a time of 7:57. They were the most consistent crews of the tour.

In the boys’ U16 doubles Nikisipho Khovana with Callen Jordan finished second in a time of 8:16.

In the singles sculls event Rawlins was entered into the men’s C event.

Despite racing against senior men from clubs and universities, he finished just 3,5 seconds behind the winner, coming third.

In the eights, with restrictions on training in crew boats, they had very little time to row together. Despite the challenges faced in this regard, Selborne came second in the U18 category in a time of 6:55.
