Chippa want full house of four wins

- VUYOKAZI NKANJENI

Chippa United are left with only four matches in their pursuit to save their status in the Dstv Premiership this season.

As they continue to scrap for points, the Chilli Boys will be hoping to grab a win against struggling Black Leopards in their basement battle fixture at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday (3pm).

The stress of fighting relegation has become the norm for the Gqeberha side as season in and season out Chippa are faced with the same scenario.

The Chilli Boys last secured top-eight status in 2016 under the guidance of Dan “Dance” Malesela but since then have been fighting to remain in the top flight.

In 2018, Serbian coach Vladislav Heric helped save the team from relegation and led the club to a decent 10th-place finish.

This season Chippa are second from the bottom on the log with 24 points from 26 matches.

They are only a point away from the safety zone.

A win against Leopards will come in handy and the Chippa players are fully aware of the importance of the remaining fixtures.

Striker Augustine Kwem says they will be going for a win and nothing less when the side squares up with Lidoda Duvha.

“The game against Leopards is very important because we are together in the relegation battle,” the 23-year-old said.

“This is a six-pointer swing match.

“There is chance for a draw in this game but we just need to win.

“The same goes for the remaining games — they are important.

“We still have TTM to play also and we still have Bloemfontein Celtic, who are not too far above us.

“The only team far above us is Supersport United.

“So the last four games are important for us, but the good thing that the coach is saying is that we are taking one game at a time and taking each game as a cup final.

“So we just need to give our all and hopefully our good run of form in the league, which is seven points in three games, will continue and we will see the team out of this relegation battle.

“That would be a great achievement for us this season playing in the Nedbank Cup final and also saving the team.”

His teammate, Nyiko Mobbie, shared his sentiments.

“We will go out there to fight and save the team — our focus now is on winning all our remaining games.

“We are going to give our best in the field to win our remaining games.

“It’s not going to be easy but we are looking forward to winning them all.”
