Bourse lifts ahead of Reserve Bank policy announcement
The JSE was firmer on Thursday morning, with its global peers mixed.
At 9.50am, the all-share had gained 0.39% to 63,597.13 points and the top-40 was up 0.44%. Industrials had gained 0.85%, while both banks and financials were up 0.13%. Precious metals had lost 0.72%.
The local currency made small gains after reaching an intraday worst level of R14.85/$, having closed at R14.87/$ on Wednesday.
At 9.42am, the rand had strengthened 0.77% to R14.70/$, 0.65% to R17.21/€ and 0.48% to R20.06/£. The euro was 0.16% firmer at $1.17.
The Reserve Bank was due to announce its latest policy stance later on Thursday, with the consensus that the repo rate would be left unchanged at 3.5%.
Gold was unchanged at $1,768.28/oz, while platinum gained 1.47% to $1,010.10. Brent crude was 0.74% firmer to $76.40 a barrel.
