My top candidate

President Cyril Ramaphosa has sent the word out that he needs a replacement for Chief Justice Mogoeng.

Since he has asked for citizen participation, I nominate my candidate right away before the field gets crowded. The one who stands out to me is the head of the NPA, Shamila Batohi.

My regret is that she would have to leave the NPA at a crucial time in its battle against corruption.

But she has already turned the NPA around with new appointments and is creating the pathway to prosecution.

Batohi is well qualified for Constitutional Court chief justice. Her experience covers the whole spectrum of local, provincial, national and international courts and laws.

She has the eagle’s view of the justice system.

She has demonstrated excellent leadership at the NPA, attracting good lawyers despite a limited budget.
