Jazz veteran Gloria Bosman to wow Komani
Jazz lovers will be serenaded at the Mlungisi Community Hall in Komani, when legendary jazz artist Gloria Bosman performs at the Chris Hani Jazz Festival on Sunday.
The festival, previously known as the Komani Jazz Festival, has seen many visitors from other provinces.
Komani is the home of jazz and home to legends such as the organist Boet Gashe, Mickley Matshikiza’s Blue Rhythm Syncopates, William “Sax O Wills” Mbali’s Big Four, Todd Matshikiza, Vic Phahlane, Toto “BA” Oliphant, Ben Mazwi, Lex Mona, Sdakane Gwazela, Wanki Koti — the list is endless.
The department of sport, recreation, arts & culture in partnership with Chris Hani District municipality got together to bring this year’s jazz festival, which features artists such as Gloria Bosman, Dumza Maswana, Retsie Pule and local jazz bands from the Chris Hani district and other municipalities of the province.
Department spokesperson Andile Nduna said it was all systems go for the Chris Hani Jazz Festival.
“Covid-19 had an indelible impact on our music industry, so much so that we can’t wait to be taken down memory lane through jazz.
“What better place to do this than eKomani, where it all started. It is more like a revival of the soul and a meeting of kindred spirits that we are looking forward to.
“Through the festival, both the department and the municipality worked to see the revival of this genre of music and encourage more young people to take up jazz,” Nduna said.
The festival will start at 10am and entrance is free.
