Blockbuste­rs on the cards in next round of ABC Motsepe league

The sixth round of the Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe soccer league is expected to deliver a spectacle this weekend.

Nelson Mandela Bay Peace Makers (formerly BCM Stars) will be looking to maintain their top spot in stream B when they travel to Addo on Saturday to face Bush Pirates (3pm) in what will be a top of the table battle.

Peace Makers lead with 13 points, followed by Pirates with seven points from five matches.

Heading into the encounter the Peace Makers’ tails will be up as they are coming off a 2-0 victory against FC Siyanda, while Pirates will be looking to pick themselves up after they were beaten 3-2 by Seven Stars last weekend.

Mdantsane Relatives will be looking for back-to-back wins when the travel to Mphutumi Mafumbatha on Saturday (3pm) to face off against Bizana Pondo Chiefs in a stream B encounter. The sides are placed sixth and seventh respective­ly.

AmaReli, as the Mdantsane team is affectiona­tely known, registered their first win of the league against Mthatha’s FC Jacaranda last Saturday in a battle of the rookies.

Other fixtures in stream B see Siyanda taking on Amaxesibe at Mount Frere Stadium (3pm) and FC Jacaranda playing Hanley FC at Mthatha Stadium (3pm).

In stream A second-placed Matta Milan will look to move to the top when they travel to Mthatha Stadium on Saturday to face Bush Bucks (3pm).

Milan have seven points and could overtake leaders Sinenkani (eight points), as the Bizanabase­d side are not be playing this weekend.

They have played a game more than the other sides in the stream.

Lusikisiki’s Champion FC, who have six points, will be keeping a close watch on what is happening at Mthatha Stadium as they could also move to the top.

On Saturday they will travel to Mphuthumi Mafumbatha Stadium in Bizana to lock horns with FC Ravens (1pm).

The game will mark Yanga Sipika ’ s first match as head coach of Champion, having been promoted from goalkeeper coach this week after Pikolomzi Noqazo left to join Sinenkani.

Sixth-placed Amavarara will welcome struggling Thohoyando­u FC at Lady Grey Stadium (3pm).

Thohoyando­u will be without a regular head coach after Siyabulela Nomaqhiza and his assistant, Sihle Makhanya, resigned from the club in mid-week.

In the only fixture that was played on Friday, Highbury FC came up against AmaMpondo United at the Nelson Mandela University south campus.
