Bourse lifts ahead of US Fed minutes
The JSE was firmer on Wednesday morning, along with its global peers. That followed signs the US Fed may start slowing the pace of rate hikes.
Traders are also watching China closely as rising Covid cases threaten the country’s economic progress.
The Fed meeting minutes were set to be released late on Wednesday.
At 10.15am, the all-share had gained 0.77% to 72,795 points and the top-40 was up 0.89%. Precious metals had added 2.14%, resources 1.74%, industrial metals 1.33%, industrials 0.47%, financials 0.37% and banks 0.36%.
At 10.28am, the rand was little changed at R17.23/$ and R20.47/£, while it had weakened 0.23% to R17.80/€. The euro was 0.27% firmer at $1.03.
Gold gained 0.16% to $1,741.48/oz and platinum 0.94% to $997.30/oz. Brent crude was unchanged at $88.34 a barrel.
