What is energy?

Is energy the muscle I have in my body? No. Think of energy as the fuel you and many other living and non-living things need to function.

Energy enables you to do work or to make something move or change in some way.

A car, for example, cannot move if it has no petrol or diesel (the fuel that helps them move). Plants rely on the process of photosynthesis to make their own food, which is their source of energy, from sunlight, water and carbon dioxide.

The fruit and vegetables you munch on are used by your amazing body to produce energy, or store it away for later use.

Energy takes different forms

Energy comes in many forms. If you are running, it is called kinetic energy.

The energy used by cars from fuel or diesel is chemical energy. There are heat (thermal), light (solar), electrical, gravitational, nuclear, potential and sound energy. And they all have the ability to change whatever they touch.

Think of someone tanning in the sun at the beach or next to a pool. The energy from the sun can either warm you up or burn your skin. By warming you up or leaving you with sunburn, the energy from the sun has changed your temperature and possibly your skin.

Potential vs. kinetic energy: w difference?

These two types of energy are because they complement ea

Potential energy is the energy stored in an object. If you eat before school, your body stor energy from the food for when need it to walk, run and play.

When your body starts using t then it becomes kinetic energ kinetic energy begins as pote energy.

Think of a stationary car. It ha potential energy, but what ha when its engine or motor is tu It starts to move.
