EDITOR’S NOTE
For the past few weeks, political parties and independent candidates have been campaigning for votes – going door-todoor, holding rallies and running social media campaigns to convince South Africans why they deserve their vote.
Elections are an important part of our democracy, which allows us to elect who we want as our councillors (the people who decide the budget for a municipality or which projects should be developed in an area) or our representatives in Parliament, which is where the laws of the country are made.
Next week, South Africans will be heading to the polls to vote in the local government elections. As we head towards that, this week we’ll be looking at what national and local government elections are and what happens thereafter.
Until next time, enjoy!
