PERHAPS IT IS FEAR THAT DRIVES US HUMANS TO CHOOSE SELF-SERVING RATHER THAN NATION-SERVING SOLUTIONS
Response to My dad, Dr Mac, taught me what it means to live a life that matters
Children are left to hustle on their own. Call it abundance? I sincerely do not know. What I know for sure is that transcendence is possible overall. Humanity’s vocabulary, concepts even, that attempt to make sense of it all are not necessarily what will be at the very end. Suffice to say, none of us is privy to what will be.
All devastations – the Covid-19 pandemic, planet Earth’s erosion brought about by climate changes, the fierce fires, drought coupled with poverty – impact the impoverished the worst. Man-made disasters sadly add more to an already dire situation. One would imagine that all the above-mentioned devastations would evoke a natural call to all humans to unite to defend further distractions, but it seems to be causing the undesirable effect of repelling opinions or efforts to bring about restoring ideas. I tend to think this is probably what fear evokes in humans.
Why would humans choose self-serving solutions, rather than nation-serving or -saving solutions?
For now, it is perhaps well to see how good or bad we all have become in failing to protect the future and fulfilling the prosperity of the next generations. Perhaps our fear is the necessary opponent to trigger a grounded and better defence that would ensure pure self-introspections that encourage positive action for the good of all humans.
Overall, how else would we all be able to see exactly how fallible, weak, fearful and foolish we are, if it were not for our fears? How else can we discover our common good, brought about by the reflection on the differences we see in who we are or have become?
For now, we are to endure the intolerance and noise that rejects efforts of what is normally perceived worthy. Until the time arrives, we each should be compelled to search our inner selves. How I wish this could be sooner rather than later.
The world is meant to be a host, nurturing its inhabitants, with all things evergreen and life-giving. Happy children who laugh because they are content in the arms of their present and cheering mothers or fathers. All creation, giving and receiving equally.
Humanity is capable of being good. Obedience to some order is possible, especially the higher order of human coexistence.
Thank you, Heather. Your piece is moving and thought-provoking. Your writing deserves a lecture room.
