The difference of opinion between the outgoing EU ambassador to South Africa Riina Kionka and President Cyril Ramaphosa over the Ukrainian crisis has its roots in the fact that dear to the heart of Ramaphosa is the BRICS cartel, of which he is a member. This private club puts Cyril Ramaphosa into bed with Vladimir Putin.

History shows that, since the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991, Ukraine has been an independent sovereign state. Ukrainian independence is well established and South Africa is refusing to do the right thing and condemn the invasion.

Condemnation is prohibited under terms of the “Old Pals Act” that exists between Putin and Ramaphosa.

There is no justification for defending the murderous, illegal, immoral, genocidal and criminal Russian invasion of a sovereign independent state that has been in existence for many years.

History will judge Ramaphosa’s fence-sitting harshly.

Thank you for your thoughts on our beloved country and why we stay despite the desperate political situation. It brought tears to my eyes as I have a deep belief in the people of this country. I am sixth generation and am blessed with four children, three of whom live near me in Cape Town. My eldest daughter and her family have lived in the UK for 18 years and have decided to return home.

My one daughter is gay and her partner is Northern Sotho. They have two little boys of mixed race. I love them both so very dearly as I do my other grandchildren. I know the majority of South Africans value people for who they are, not for the colour of their skin.

Thanks for your thoughts.
