Great heist romance mixes action with love
An art thief stealing romantic images from galleries in Europe meets his match in an ex-lover Interpol agent determined to catch him, again. By
You know a movie is good when you want to rewatch it immediately after it has ended. Art of Love really is artful and full of romance. We’ve been getting a lot of mediocre love stories lately, so when a good one comes along it feels really special.
In Art of Love we are rewarded with a versatile story full of twists and turns. Even if you are not dizzy towards the end of this charming story, you’ll certainly be a hopeless romantic.
I won’t lie, at the beginning of this film the voice-over annoyed me so much I wanted to pull my hair out. But luckily the storyline became interesting enough for me to forgive the lazy exposition.
To catch a thief
Former art curator Alin (Esra Bilgiç) moves to Istanbul from Paris after her boyfriend Güney (Birkan Sokullu) ghosts her, leaving her worrying that something has happened to him. Her boyfriend’s sudden disappearance inspires her to become an officer at Interpol but as time goes by she forgets about him.
News about a mastermind art thief who never gets caught stealing works of romantic art – strangely, always the least valuable art in the gallery – grabs her attention and she becomes determined to bust the swindler.
After what seems like a good plan to catch the thief, Alin lets the opportunity slip to handcuff the criminal after discovering it is her estranged billionaire boyfriend, Güney.
She then orchestrates a meeting with him, hopefully to put her feelings aside and lock him up for good. She also wants to get her revenge for the way Güney ended their relationship.
The task of putting him behind bars is not as easy as it seems because trying to prove that a well-known billionaire is stealing cheap art sounds ridiculous and is what keeps us invested in this fun production.
Alin is determined to come up with a plan to convince her superior that Güney is behind the countless art robberies around Europe but her plan begins to crumble when she starts falling for him, again.
Action-packed love story
The hunt for the art thief and the undeniable chemistry between Alin and Güney is such a pleasure to witness on screen that you can’t help but root for their bizarre love story.
The imagery and visuals of the film are undeniably
enchanting
The two leads, Bilgiç and Sokullu, delivered their characters beautifully; the imagery and visuals of the film are undeniably enchanting and the excellent soundtrack and high fashion add to the pleasure of watching. A ruthless villain gives the plot a nostalgic Disney-like feel, topping off the high-octane drama.
The “you and me against the world” theme will win the hearts of many romantics. The film allows for heist movie fans and heart-melting romance story lovers to bond. When the credits rolled, I wanted to rewind and rewatch.
Art of Love is on Netflix’s top 10 films. I give it four out of five stars.
