Hard work is name of game
RUSSIAN tennis star Maria Sharapova did not disappoint when she put on some French flair at Roland Garros.
She took a tumble at the French Open, exposing her underwear for all to see.
Fortunately for her, there were no gasps from the crowd to add to her embarrassment. But the cameramen, alert as always to catch anything tantalising to splash on the front pages of the tabloids, did not miss the open shot and zoomed in with their lenses on the glamour girl’s red underwear in all its glory.
Though flustered, the stylish beauty did not stumble again and, screaming at every shot, went on to beat her Czech opponent to advance to the quarter-finals.
Whenever I see such high-quality tennis, I think of our boys and girls. Where’s our tennis talent to showcase on the world stage?
Do our sports only have to be about Bafana and their excuses for not finding the net? So much money thrown at a team which is a national disgrace. It couldn’t even beat Ethiopia – ranked 138th in the world. (Pitso plays the blame game as Bafana held, Daily News, June 4).
It’s the story of our land – playing the political ball game to produce mediocrity.
Stupid Safa cannot get it into their thick heads that not magic, but only talent, hard work and dedication will bring success for the national soccer team. T MARKANDAN
