Silence settles divorce deal
LOS ANGELES: It is probably the first thing they have agreed on in years.
Former supermodel Christie Brinkley and her ex-husband have settled their bitter custody battle – by deciding never to speak to each other again.
The warring couple, who divorced four years ago, will get a “parent coordinator” to supervise their dealings with their teenage children Sailor, 14, and Jack, 17.
After years of bickering, 58-year-old Brinkley and her ex-husband, Peter Cook, 53, agreed the “no verbal contact” clause hours before they were due to go to court in New York this week in the latest episode in their child support soap opera.
But their deal didn’t mean they went quietly. After months of public attacks on each other, they put out acrimonious statements in which both claimed victory.
Brinkley, the inspiration for her second husband Billy Joel’s 1983 hit Uptown Girl, described architect Cook as a philandering narcissist.
“Let it be known that I “moved on” from my marriage to Peter Cook the moment an officer informed me that “my husband had been cheating on me in a twoyear affair with his 17-yearold daughter”.
She appeared to be referring to Cook’s alleged affair with his teenage assistant, which led to the break-up of their marriage.
Cook said he felt “great” about the settlement and urged his former wife to seek therapy. “Christie may never understand or come to regret the bitterness she has left in people’s hearts, including our children’s.” – Daily Mail
