Blankets distributed in Verulam

- ZAMA NENE

THE East Coast Radio Winter Warmth campaign got into high gear yesterday when the first 1 000 blankets were given away to the Redcliffe Compassionate Mission in Verulam.

One hundred residents of the Sandpit informal settlement received the blankets.

Pastor Jay Naidoo of the mission said the donation could not have arrived at a better time.

“We’d like to thank East Coast Radio and everyone that made this day possible. On our own we struggle to feed and clothe people that live here who are unemployed and the area is povertystricken; so this goes a long way in helping the people that live here.” Naidoo said.

East Coast Radio CSI project manager Anusha Timul said: “Something as simple as a blanket really can provide people with some source of warmth and comfort during winter.”

Val Ives, the marketing executive of co-sponsor The Hub Group, said: “Knowing that there are children and elderly people who are going to be warm tonight when they go to sleep is incredibly heart warming. We’d like to ask those who can to join us in making a difference.”

Blankets can be bought anywhere, but they are available at the Hub at just R40 each. They can be dropped off at any one of the Hub stores in the province. You can also make donations via:
