Father’s search for missing teen enters its fourth month

- DUDU ZWANE

A FATHER is desperate for news of his missing son, who disappeared more than three months ago.

Hugo Mbonambi, 48, has been tirelessly looking for leads on the whereabouts of Anton Zwane, 16, who left home to go to the library on January 3 and never returned.

For Mbonambi and his family, life has not been the same since their youngest child went missing. “I’m crying, his mother is crying, his sister is crying too. We just want him to come home,” Mbonambi said.

Mbonambi said he did not know why his son had disappeared – there had been no conflicts at home that might have driven him away.

“We had been enjoying the December holidays together. Usually, I take them here and there, but because I had been sick for a few months, there was no money to take them anywhere.

“There were no incidents in the house except for my scolding him about repeating the same grade twice,” said Mbonambi.

The teenager is a soft-spoken person, who is fond of the Bible. “My son was very respectful. He loved going to church and always had a Bible in his hand, but I guess when the devil arrives, he arrives,” said Mbonambi.

The Morningside father said he had left no stone un- turned in the search for his only boy, including reaching out to the police and to his teachers at Sastri College High school.

“Every day someone from the family goes out to the park with his picture or I remind the police,” said Mbonambi.

He appealed to other parents and the public who might see his son to contact him or the Durban Central Police station. “As a parent, I want nothing but the best for him. I want him to continue with school and to have a bright future,” said Mbonambi.

The SAPS’s Captain Khephu Ndlovu said the teen had been spotted loitering around the Point area, but further investigation into the matter would continue.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Anton Zwane has been asked to call Mbonambi at 078 436 2084 or 071 807 7128.
