DUT ARTHUR SMITH HALL:

Lewis Nkosi’s will be staged at DUT City Campus’s Arthur Smith Hall from Saturday until April 30. The work, directed by Debbie Lutge, features award-winning seasoned profession­al actors. DUT graduates Liesl Coppin and Ntando Mncube are accompanie­d by original musical compositio­n and arrangemen­ts by DUT drama and production studies vocal coach and instrument­alist Madlen Tzankova and Richardt Wissink. This naughty and provocativ­e play, which lasts an hour, explores the entire gamut of audience emotions from embarrassm­ent to mirth, from fear to contemplat­ion, all layered with the poignant beauty of Lewis Nkosi’s writing. Lutge’s vision is realised through contempora­ry decor designed by Bryan Hiles, with a surrealist collage of illuminati­on by Mthandazo Mofokeng, both former DUT students. Shows are 7pm nightly. RHUMBELOW THEATRE:

South African jazz artist Melvin Peters, who is considered to be one of the country’s foremost jazz pianists, commemorat­es 30 years of being a profession­al jazz pianist, having first begun lessons in 1983 at the University of Natal under the tutelage of Darius Brubeck. The jazz world continues to mourn the loss of American jazz musician and composer Dave Brubeck, who died in December. Peters and his fellow musicians will feature this show, presenting versions of tunes composed and performed by Brubeck during his illustriou­s career. The quartet comprises Melvin Peters (piano), Jonathan Judge (saxophone), Ildo Nanja (acoustic bass) and Bruce Baker (drums). Shows are on Friday and Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 2pm and 6.30pm. The story portrays the lives of these completely different individual­s and includes the humorous antics of their friends. The twists and turns are riveting and this show will appeal to a broad spectrum, and the blend of Bollywood and English will appeal to all age groups and races. This musical will have all aspects to make it entertainm­ent at its best – love, humour, anger, pain, song and dance. The show runs from Friday until May 5 at the iZulu Theatre. DCC JESUS DOME:

returns to Durban where it will have seven performanc­es (including a show for schools) from Wednesday until Sunday at the Thunder Dome at the DCC Jesus Dome in Mayville. This world premiere brings the Passion of Christ to life in music featuring original gospelinsp­ired songs. The story is based on the Gospel according to St John and will be a choral masterwork featuring close to a hundred voices on stage. The tour began in Durban and moved to Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, Soweto, Johannesbu­rg, Mahikeng and is now back in Durban. The libretto is written by Themi Venturas and the music is composed by Phelelani Mnomiya (celebrated and award-winning gospel choral composer), Anthony Govender (of Destiny Music) and the Young Mbazo (grandchild­ren of world-renown a cappella group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo). The cast of 21 are supplement­ed in each centre throughout SA by a 60-strong local choir: the Umlazi Oasis Church Choir and the Clermont Choir in Durban. Bookings are at Computicke­t.
