How you can spend Lotto jackpot

- LAUREN ANTHONY and DUDU ZWANE

IF YOU don’t have your ticket for tonight’s R57 million Lotto jackpot by the time you read this, then you may have to spend some time in a queue to stand a chance.

As excitement builds for the draw – the biggest in SA lottery history – here are some options on how to spend the money.

Acutts director Jonathan Acutts said a property investment worth R57m would be a wise choice.

“For that price the house would probably come with an ocean view, gymnasium, a cinema, an amazing main bedroom and breathtaking architecture,” he said.

Dawn Latham from Lighthouse Property said you can relax in The Oyster Box Hotel’s presidential suite for 1 140 days, or almost three years, at a cost of R50 000 a day.

For the petrol heads, Grant Waddleton, assistant new vehicle sales manager at Audi Centre Durban, suggests going for the Audi R8 V10 priced at R2.1m.

On the electronic side, the winner could buy top-of-the-range Apple products, with loads to spare.

The winnings can also go a long way in helping those less fortunate.

According to Justin Foxton from The Baby House in uMhlanga, at R166 a day, it could be spent on feeding and caring for 940 abandoned babies for one year.

The winnings could feed 100 hungry people for 44 years, according to the Durban-based Nkosinathi Feeding Project, build 356 low-cost houses, or provide food and shelter for 100 dogs or cats for about 22 years, according to the SPCA.

In an effort to combat rhino poaching, Cherry Armstrong of Celebrate Life SA said the same money could pay to keep 54 helicopters in the air patrolling game reserves for a year.

At current fees, excluding all extras, R57m could put 57 boys through five years at Hilton College.

Alternatively, for the same deal, 83 girls could be educated at St Anne’s College at a cost of R136 000 a year.
