Unhappy Christmas for the family of missing woman

- SHERLISSA PETERS

FOR most people, Christmas is associated with families coming together to celebrate the holiday season. However, for families and friends of missing persons, Christmas is a particularly difficult time in dealing with the uncertainty.

Cedric Mchunu, whose sister Happy went missing on December 6, said his family had been torn apart by his sister’s disappearance.

“We don’t know whether she is alive or dead. Of if she is hurt or needs help. All we did this Christmas was pray for her safe return home,” he said.

Happy, 24, went missing from the Ezakheni area in Ladysmith. She was reported missing by her fiancé.

According to police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker, the couple were in the Ladysmith CBD when they became separated in an attempt to complete their shopping quickly.

However, Happy didn’t return home. The family called all her friends and relatives and launched their own search, before calling the police.

Happy is of slim build and is 1.8m tall. She has braided hair, which she wears in a ponytail. She has small traditional scars (horizontal) on her face.

At the time of her disappearance she was wearing a red dress, a green jersey with white stripes and red sandals. She was also wearing gold earrings . She is fluent in Zulu and also speaks English.

She is of slender build and average height. She has long black hair and black eyes.
