Steyn and Philander made the right decision, say Chatters

-

Cricket

Didn’t know SA cricket had so many experts sitting at home. Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander made the right decision. Imran Tahir and Morne Morkel not recognised batsmen and Morkel was injured. Rather give ourselves a chance to win the series than risk losing it. Criticism should be directed towards Indian Cricket Board for dictating how many games they want to play. And why are they the only team in the world that refuse to use DRS? The Kallis dismissal proved exactly why they are against it. Now the No 1 Test team in the world have to play a two-Test series. What rubbish. Great fightback, SA. JB.

To all you people that think you know anything about cricket. First of all, well done to Graeme Smith and his team – you did us proud. Wow, on the last day I thought it was all over. Right. When Vernon Philander and Dale Steyn were at the wicket with only two wickets left, it was Download QR code reader from i-nigma.mobi or your App Store quite clear the chase was off. Why? Because, of the two left, one could not run and the other is not one of the best around as far as batting goes. So, please, if you don’t have anything good to say, then shut up. Once again, well done to our boys.

Disappointed in Chatters’ comments on the first Test. Have any of them played Test cricket? No, I bet. Ken Borland got it spot on. Try bowling to the Indian batters without one of your strike bowlers, and your spinner is not hitting his straps. It’s the only reason they got that score. RobH.

Ticket prices for cricket Test are ridiculous. And people wonder why the stands are empty. CSA needs to make it affordable for the people to enjoy this wonderful game. Shane.

Jacques Kallis was out because there was no DRS and only two Tests. The Indian cricket bosses are dictating to the ICC. It’s not democratic. Brian.

Recently I expressed my disappointment at KZNCU for not inviting stalwarts Baboo Ebrahim and K Hiraman into the presidential suite. Today I met a former Natal (nonracial) cricketer in the gym who told me that after many years he had been invited to the Presidential Suite for the Test match. Congrats to KZNCU. I love it when people act on positive criticisms. MB Juggernath.

City/shacks

Please could Mayor James Nxumalo explain the difference between what was done to the shack dwellers in Marikana (Cato Crest) two days before Christmas, and the forced removals of the apartheid government? The end result is the same: the poorest of the poor lose the few possessions they have, and families are homeless. Surely there is a better way?

The municipality did the right thing in demolishing shacks. Now they must do the same in Effingham.

Let’s get real. Provide accommodation for migrant labour, not houses, especially since many do have “rural homes”. Benny.

At this time of goodwill to all men, the ANC-led municipality chose to destroy the homes of shack dwellers. How insensitive and intolerant they are. It’s almost unbelievable. Is this Nelson Mandela’s legacy? Imagine the outcry by the ANC if this had been done in a DA-run municipality. Here’s poo in the face of the ANC.

Here we go again, trained electrical engineers being injured on duty. Surely after carefully assessing the situation, they would have known what action to take. It could be a case of lack of experience or negligence; whatever the case may be, those in power should make it illegal to purchase or sell copper for a certain number of years, just until the sale of it is not worth the effort. Rods.

Is it really that difficult to put a stop to the theft of electricity? Perhaps the ANC government and our very own council do not have the political will to arrest the thieves. The tired old story of not being able to catch the actual illegal connectors or bush electricians is often mentioned. Why is it that if you are a buyer or have in your possession stolen goods, you are immediately arrested? So, instead of going after the illegal connectors which we are told is so difficult, all the council has to do is follow the cables and arrest the shack or homeowner, because they are also breaking the law. It’s a nobrainer solution. Morgan.

Odds and ends

We have enough statues: what we need are schools and hospitals which could be named after the person you wanted to honour.

Can we get a list of items sold at the Nkandla tuckshop together with the prices?

Why does the Daily News continue to publish articles about Vincent Mdunge “alleged” fake matric certificate? This newspaper with vast resources and journalists cannot establish whether a person has a genuine matric certificate. What hope for any type of investigation? Do the Daily News’ own staff have matric and how do they know for sure? SAM. Editor’s note: By law, until a person is found guilty by a court, any charges are unproven and therefore alleged.

How ignorant of the person to say that whites are at the top of the corruption feeding hierarchy. Unfortunately you need to be educated because your claim is wrong. Jaco.

Recently there has been an increase in the number of vehicles being driven without number plates. I asked one driver, who I see quite often, what was his excuse for not having a front number plate. His excuse was to avoid speeding fines. I asked him what happens when a traffic officer stops him and he said he simply tells them it might have fallen off while driving. Are our traffic officials so daft as to fall for this type of excuse? Prem.
